Functional Capacity Evaluations

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a detailed evaluation that objectively measures an individual's current level of physical abilities related to the demands of employment or activities of daily living. An FCE measures the ability of an individual to perform functional or work-related tasks. The FCE is an important tool used to assist employers, physicians, insurance companies, attorneys, case managers and vocational consultants to determine safe, functional levels for an individual to either return to work or establish functional abilities or limitations. The results of from an FCE may assist in return-to-work decisions, disability determination, litigation or to design rehabilitation plans. Functional capacity evaluations are performed here in our outpatient clinic at OSPT. The FCE generally takes approximately 3 hours to complete. As an independently owned and operated facility, our goal is to provide fair, accurate, concise and objective testing and documentation.

Who Can Benefit From an FCE?

  • Someone who has been injured on the job to determine his or her ability to return to the job or alternate work
  • Someone applying for Social Security Disability benefits
  • Someone seeking to return to work or volunteer activities after an injury or illness
  • Someone seeking vocational rehabilitation services
