Kinesio Taping

Kinesio® Tape is a latex-free, elastic, porous cotton strip with an acrylic adhesive used for treating injuries and a variety of other physical disorders. Kinesio® Tape stretches up to 140% of its original length, which allows much greater range of motion, compared to traditional athletic tape. It can also be left on for longer periods of time (up to 4 days) before re-application is needed. Kinesio® Tape is about as thick as human epidermis (skin) and is designed to mimic its elastic properties to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, relax muscles, as well as supporting muscles during activity. The Kinesio Taping® Method is a taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body's natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body's range of motion. Kinesio tape is safe for populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric, and successfully treats a variety of orthopedic and neuromuscular conditions. By targeting receptors within the somatosensory system, Kinesio tape helps alleviate pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by slightly lifting the skin. This skin lifting effect, increases the interstitial space and allows for a decrease in inflammation of the affected area. It has been shown to have positive physiological effects on the lymphatic and circulatory system, fascia, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints. It can be used in conjunction with a multitude of other treatments and modalities within the clinic.
