Laser Therapy

The primary mechanism of laser therapy is photon biomodulation which stimulates cells and tissue repair. Laser therapy is based on scientific research which has demonstrated positive physiological effects of infrared wavelengths on the cells within the tissue. There is a therapeutic window for reducing inflammation, increasing fibroblast activity and collagen fiber synthesis and proper laser dosage is key for stimulating optimal tissue repair. Current research indicates that under dosing or over irradiating tissues with laser will not result in positive therapeutic effects. We utilize the World Association of Laser Therapy dosing guidelines. Studies have reported laser therapy in combination with eccentric and stretching exercises reduced recovery time by 4 and 8 weeks in two trials. Laser therapy is safe and acts in a dose-dependent manner by biological mechanisms which modulate both tendon inflammation and tendon repair.
